Okay, let’s jump right in! This is a project I did a few weeks ago after deciding I didn’t want to pay $30+ for a magnetic board. Here’s my tip for DIY-ing your own: Don’t shy away from those hopeless looking frames at the thrift store. Always remember paint is your best friend!

Take some old frames, sheet metal, and hot glue and transform them into chic magnetic boards for displaying paper-phanalia and inspiration.

I’ve used rubber bands, fancy, expensive clips and everything else in an attempt to keep my charging cord collection from tangling. Elastic hair ties are the way to go! They’re soft, multi-purpose, and can be color coordinated to match your office accessories since there are so many colors and patterns available.

Another way I use decorative elastic is to keep my binder secured and organized. I tied a 1-yard piece of black / gold patterned elastic to the front cover of my binder to hold loose leaf pages, note books and pens.

To keep my binder closed, I punched a screw through the front flap, secured with a bolt on the inside flap, and wrapped a second, 1-yard piece of elastic around the back to loop onto the screw head. My binder is a thick cardboard type material, which made the screw was easy to punch through, but I’m sure this could work for a plastic binder as well.

This next idea is the cheapest (yet chicest!) idea on the list; Use cleaned glass food jars with screw-on lids for sorting small items like paper clips, staples, thumb tacks, etc. The jars I used were from jam (far right), pizza sauce (the mini Mason jar shown below) and salsa (left).

This next organization hack is so amazingly easy to do it’s almost embarrassing! Visit the paint department at your nearest hardware store to pick up some coordinating paint chips. Tape together as many paint chips as you want to fit any sized binder or filofax, then decorate with stickers to create the perfect subject dividers.

The next three images demonstrate the easiest way I’ve discovered to organize sticky tabs and make them portable. I dislike having a bulky zipper pouch in my binder stuffed with supplies; This way I can see exactly which tabs I have and not worry about them getting crumpled in a pocket somewhere.

The cheap tab sets at office supply store always come with a couple pads I never use; I just pull off the ones I like from the original card and reposition them on a paint chip with double sided tape.

There are so many free printables and easy DIY art projects out there that you probably never have to purchase art work for your office! Fab shopping bags also make posh art.

Re-think the way you use every day items. Anything can become art as long as YOU like it! Pull out items you love, but never use, and display them in your office… pretty books, favorite hand bags, sparkly costume jewelry, etc.
As I mentioned above, there is an unlimited amount of free, printable art out there for the taking! These are my favorite resources:
Contact paper and spray paint are two things any DIY-er should have on hand at all times. I never pass up sad-looking items at thrift shops, yard-sales and flea markets until I’m sure it can’t be redeemed using one of those two items (and some TLC!).
I even updated a boring mouse pad with some of the same marble effect contact paper you saw above on the magnet board. Choose a pattern you like and use it on anything to create instant continuity and bring that grown-up, customized feeling to your office decor.
