If you’ve been following me on Instagram for long you know I am constantly posting about my weekend beauty routine on Instastories! That’s because it’s my favorite time of the week and something I always look forward to. I get tons of questions though about what exactly this entire routine entails, so I’ve decided to start a series detailing each step and high lighting one product at a time so you know how I keep my glow all week!
For the first installment of “Rachel’s Weekend Beauty Routine” I’m going to start at the beginning of my routine and chronicle each phase, so if you’re reading this having clicked through from step 3, for example, make sure you scroll to the bottom of this post to see the other steps in ‘related’ articles over the coming weeks!
Hopefully y’all aren’t tired of hearing about my extreme love for dermatologist developed Exuviance products, because we are only just getting started! I know I sing their praises all the time, but that’s because I’m a true fan! I look forward to starting my Weekend Beauty routine with a gentle, yet deep cleanse to prep my face for serums, treatments, masks, etc. While I’m very careful to make sure my face is clean every night when I take off my makeup, and every morning before re-applying makeup, it’s important to me to switch up my routine so my skin gets a range of treatments and TLC!
I’ve been using some form of active charcoal based cleanser for years (over 10 years to be honest!), and I was so happy when Exuviance sent me their Active Charcoal Clay Detox Mud Treatment to try out! This product combines everything I love about active charcoal and takes it to the next level with their NeoGlucosamine Blend. I call this Detox Mud Treatment a ‘mini masque’ because it’s not as intensive as a lot of clay masks I’ve experienced in the past. It’s velvety smooth, only takes 10-15 minutes to ‘cure’ and smells nothing like your usual clay masks. It’s much gentler going on, and doesn’t crack once it’s dried because the formula is so creamy and rich. There are no abrasive beads or exfoliates and it leaves my skin feeling highly polished and oh, so soft!
This cleanser is probably best known for its ability to exfoliate and help minimize the appearance of pores while the NeoGlucosamine, Exuviance’s breakthrough non-acid sugar exfoliator, initiates the clarifying treatment process. Then Japanese binchotan charcoal acts like a magnet, sweeping up surface pore-clogging impurities and environmental toxins to take your skin beyond ordinary cleansing without the abrasion of an exfoliator, or the drying effect of a thick, clay mask.
French clay, with its high mineral content, absorbs oil (without making my skin feel dry) and leaves my skin feeling revitalized. Its botanical blend helps control oiliness for a beautiful, alabaster fine finish. Running my fingers across my face after rinsing this cleanser off is like touching marble… it’s THAT smooth! Exuviance Detox Mud Treatment truly is a delightful and refreshing product formulated for all skin types, particularly skin that is occasionally congested, oily or blemish-prone. My skin certainly needs a deep cleanse by the end of the week considering the fact that I (frequently) have my makeup on for up to 20 hours out of the day!
Starting with a flawless, deeply cleansed skin, at the beginning of my weekend beauty regimen really makes the difference in the effectiveness of my entire process because it creates a clear palette, perfectly prepped for absorbing each product applied after. I do use this a lot during the week to give my face that effortlessly polished base for applying makeup, but it’s always the first step in my weekend beauty routine!
