1983: A Very Burroughs Christmas

A Very Burroughs Christmas | Wes Anderson Inspired

Some people may instinctively think of the Griswalds when they consider the quintessential family Christmas story… but I always think of the Borroughs from the 1983 film, “Class.” Equal amounts of 1980s shenanigans, but with Rob Lowe, which automatically makes it better. The only movies I love more than Brat Pack films is anything Wes Anderson. The Anderson aesthetic is both kitschy and chic at the same time. He makes the task of everyday living feel exciting. The colors, quiet drama, specifically and ornately decorated rooms, and carefully, thoughtfully arranged aspect of every single shot, is a work of art.

For the purposes of explaining the vibe behind today’s post let’s just pretend I’m Squire Franklin Burroughs the IV’s cousin, visiting for the Holidays. Our Mother’s are somehow related, but our families have always spent Christmas together (because we’re the only extended family Mr. Burroughs can remotely stand to be around a dinner table with). That is to say, we’ve always spent Christmas together, except for this Christmas. Apparently I’ve been shipped off to The September Farm alone while my parents are spending the season at our chalet in Aspen. Since recently graduating Uni I “lack direction,” and cannot therefore be rewarded with a vacation in Europe. My name would certainly be something like Edie Armstrong, or Pippa Fairchild. I’m the hooligan responsible for teaching Skip his prep school tricks, btw.

Let’s pretend Pippa Fairchild is a tad more Wes Anderson in her style, while the Burroughs are… well… Wasps. But true Wasps take pride in that title, while pretending to not have any idea it exists. Mix it all up into a Christmas cocktail Ellen Burroughs would down in 2 seconds flat and this collection of images is what my brain produced. I hope you enjoy browsing this genre mash-up it as much as I did creating it!

I’ve never heard of that movie, but I love the idea of doing an outfit around your favorite film! A couple years ago on my blog I did an outfit around the series finale of one of my favorite TV shows. 🙂
