76th Steeplechase at Percy Warner Park

Steeplechase at Percy Warner is always a fun, Spring event in Nashville. The weather Saturday was perfection and probably the most beautiful day I’ve seen this year! Even though we were at the Hunt Club most of the day, we found time to take a few turns in the infield and stop by the new Fox Den Tent. It felt like there weren’t as many attendees this year as previous years, but it made everything far more quiet and enjoyable! I love Steeplechase so much because I always meet so many awesome new people and see friends over great drinks to catch up! The view is spectacular, the food is incredible and the company is priceless.

The Hunt Club bartenders outdo themselves every year! I had my favorite Hendricks Gin and Seltzer with a splash of orange juice over ice!

What to Wear to Steeplechase

I can’t believe it’s already been a year since the last Nashville Steeplechase! This is one of my favorite Annual Southern events and I’ll admit I spend months planning out and putting together my outfit! If you’re going to a derby this year, or just need some outfit inspiration, I hope you enjoy these two looks! I’ve curated a “Proper” and a “Preppy” ensemble, so whether you’ll be celebrating from a general tailgating spot, or from box seats, you’re sure to impress with either of these outfits!

DIY Steeplechase Derby Hat Tutorial

Because I don’t really have a horse in this race I can’t justify spending hundreds on a Derby hat every year, but that doesn’t mean I can’t at least look as if I did! You’ll probably recognize the hat shown in today’s DIY from last year’s Steeplechase post. I think I paid about $40 for that hat at Stein Mart, which is more than I like to pay for something I’m only planning on wearing only for a few hours! I decided this year I would just give that same hat a makeover and save my $$$ for the lobster roll truck at the Race!

DIY Derby Hat

I chose red roses, 1 large magnolia bloom, blue and white striped grosgrain ribbon, and a sparkly vintage jockey brooch from Etsy to create my custom hat.

For this DIY you will need a plain hat, a few blooms in your preference of colors, some ribbon, scissors and a hot glue gun, but the brooch is optional!

The hat needs to be sturdy enough (like THIS one) to support the weight of the flowers and glue, so don’t choose something with a floppy brim. I chose the magnolia as a nod to my Southern heritage, the red roses as a nod to the classic Kentucky Derby and the blue and white striped ribbon to mimic the Iroquois Steeplechase logo colors.

Watch the video at the end of the post for instructions on putting together your own hat!

The reason I love going to Steeplechase every year is because it’s the perfect way to kick off my birthday weekend! Race day is always the middle of May, so it coincides perfectly with my birthday and is such a fun event to attend! I always try to get tickets to several tents so I can go anywhere on the grounds and watch the track from every angle. Plus, every tent has a different theme, so you get an amazing variety of company, food and drinks! This year I’m really excited about the Fox Den tent hosted by Steeplechase themselves! This is the Fox Den’s Inaugural year, so it should be fabulous!
