Real vs. Steal // Boho Glam Streetstyle

Boho Glam Streetstyle Dupe!

It’s no secret I love! At least half of my wardrobe and house is furnished from Amazon finds! Many times you can even high-quality, designer-inspired dupes that are almost as good as the real thing, for 70% off or more! Today I’m linking items from four of my favorite Amazon stores. These are items I personally own and can recommend and vouch for! My best tip for shopping on Amazon is to carefully read sizing info and materials description to make sure you’re getting exactly what you expect. Many times items like shoes, clothes and bags will be listed in Euro sizes or centimeters, so double check before buying. Also, never fully rely on the stock photos, especially if it looks like the image was pulled from a blog or a designer site. Instead, look at the feed back ratings and customer photos and read a mix of good and bad reviews! Look at the photos in the store’s other listings. Do they compare in quality and style? Or are some images clearly better than others, or photo-shopped to crop out logos or other watermarks? If the image looks too doctored, chances are it’s not a photo of the item for sale! Use common sense and never buy a knock off! If the price is too good to be true it’s probably fake. However, if the item is simply a ‘dupe’ or ‘designer inspired’ with the Amazon store’s own logo, you’re good to go! Lastly, see if your desired size and color choice qualifies for Prime shipping. Many times not all the size and color combos listed are Amazon Prime, but ship directly from the factory overseas. If you’re okay with waiting 2-4 weeks, that’s fine (I have done it many times!). But be aware of where your item is shipping from and allow for transit time to avoid frustration, especially if you ordered an item thinking you would have it in time to wear to a specific event!

10 Tips To Make Living Out of a Suitcase Easy

Yesterday was a big day. My whole life was packed into several trucks and wooden crates to be shipped across the Atlantic. In preparation for this move I knew I had to reduce the size of my wardrobe to that of a 3′ x 2′ suitcase that I will be living out of for the next 6 weeks. We’re buying a house where we’re moving and our belongings won’t be delivered till we’ve finished painting and re-flooring the new place.

How To Look Fabulous Living Out of a Suitcase

So I started going through my mental check list — the list I go through when my mind feels a panic attack coming on — “How will I cope with this massive redux in clothing options?! what If I desperately need a floor length rose gold sequin gown AND the matching Louboutins?! what if I find myself in legitimate need of every single one of my different colored trench coats!? what if I decide I will in fact start wearing all those vintage silk scarves I horde and need separate ones for my hair and my hand bag handles?!” These are questions a rational, sane, grounded person would never entertain. However I am not that kind of person. I’m the kind of person who drives to the Czech Republic for the sole purpose of purchasing mustard because the kind I like isn’t within the German boarders where I live.

I know… #firstworldproblems #expatproblems #spoiledpersonproblems and while we’re at it #blessed.

Even though I go through this panic mode EVERY TIME I leave my house for longer than 4 days I have to remind myself of The System. The System that’s in place for moments such as these. And since this system works so well for me I thought I’d share it with you…

1. DO NOT choose this time in your life to try a new trend you’ve never attempted before (I’m looking at you, Clown Trousers).

2. DO NOT pack anything you haven’t worn in the last 6 months (unless you’re specifically traveling for a special occasion. i.e. wedding, cruise, trip to the moon).

3. DO NOT suddenly decide you hate all your clothes.

4. DO NOT pack for climates you know for a fact you will not encounter. (i.e. Traveling to Bombay in mid August? DO NOT pack that fur trimmed leather bomber jacket just because you got it on sale last week in Milan. DO NOT).

5. DO NOT pack shoes you never wear. Don’t be stupid. You’re not suddenly going to love wearing something you hated yesterday just because you’re in a different place.

Here’s an example outfit below showing how a day and night outfit is created around 1 staple item: jeans. You can also see a theme of tassels, which is something I wear often and have many interchangeable pieces to choose from for different levels of dressed up or down.

Day to Night in 'Boyfriend' Jeans

6. DO pack 3 of the same thing. Example: you have a white tee you seriously wear 3 days a week… buy it in every color it comes in or buy 3 in white. I’m not joking. You finally found something you want to be seen in all. the. time? Do not abandon that love. Also, while traveling it’s seldom possible to do laundry properly, so having 3 of the same thing is practical. It’s the same principle as packing multiple pairs of knickers. duh.

7. DO pack around one staple item. Example: I have this pair of jeans that can go with anything from a $13 pair of flats from H&M as well as my Rockstuds, so I create outfits around those jeans and save room on multiple pairs of pants I know I won’t wear anyway.

8. DO stick with a color theme. Yes, all black is an acceptable color theme, as are whites, grays and tans. However, you can mix shades of all 4 neutrals and come up with unlimited possibilities. i.e. black flats, white tee, grey blazer, tan bag. voila. The cardinal rule is that all the items in your bag be interchangeable with each other (obviously with the aforementioned exception of special occasion items such as a ball gowns, space suits, etc).

9. DO take up some of that valuable space on relaxation and/or exercise clothing. Traveling can be stressful and it’s even more stressful not to have a way of alleviating that pressure or worry. Pack your favorite pajamas, trainers or yoga pants and make time for a rest, a jog or practice even if it’s for a few minutes.

10. DO make a practice outfit run. Sometimes I have an outfit idea in my head so I pack all the necessary components and then, when I finally try it on, it’s a disaster. To avoid this catastrophe I try on all my outfits before they go into my suitcase as well as all accessories and shoe options. You could also take selfies on your phone to remember which items go together for later.

Although everyone’s style is different I’ve included a shoppable list {above} of my current suitcase staples. If you’re stuck and just need some inspiration maybe this list can help!

What sort of tried and true tricks do you stick with when traveling or packing a suitcase? I’d love to hear about them! I’m always up for learning new travel ‘hacks!’
