Belle & the Enchanted Rose Beauty and The Beast Disney Inspired Makeup

Although I love Beauty and The Beast’s story I’ve always been more intrigued by the Enchanted Rose. It symbolizes the delicacy and slow bloom of love, yet is powerful enough to transform anyone. Today’s makeup look is inspired by Belle and the Enchanted Rose. I always thought Belle had a very rose-bud-esque look with her earthy eyes, flushed cheeks, beautiful skin and mauve pink lips. The whole idea for this look came together quite some time ago when the Lancôme La Rôse à Poudrer Highlighter‎ released in February. Just like the Enchanted Rose I immediately imagined this highlighter belonging under a glass bell!

Once I decided on the Enchanted Rose theme I started thinking about other rose inspired makeup that could be incorporated into this look.

Of course it was natural I choose the Huda Beauty Rose Gold palette and the Flower Jelly lipstick with the tiny rose embedded inside (just like the Enchanted Rose trapped in the glass bell!) From there it was simply a matter or replicating Belle’s glow-y, doe-like look. Check out the video below to find out exactly how to create this look for yourself!

NOTE: I do have eyelash extensions in, so you won’t see my putting mascara or lashes on in this video, but my favorite false lashes are THESE & THESE. I get my lash extensions at Hunter Paige Salon and they’re done by BethSee links in YouTube video description box for all products used!

August Favorites Round-Up

Welcome to my August favorites round-up! This post is not sponsored in any way and I’m reviewing these products without prior compensation from any company. I think by now y’all know how much I love to share a good deal or product, so I hope you find something new to try today! (Links to purchase items will be at the end of this post).

August Favorites Round-Up

My first August favorite is the clip-on selfie ring light by Genuine Ingenious! Pros: There are three, graduating illumination settings for super low-light situations — gotta get that light ring in you iris even if it’s the middle of the night! The wide clip allows the ring light to be attached to a phone with a huge, protective case (like my Otter Box!) and even fits over a case and the front-facing camera on my MacBook. Cons: It would be nice if the designer took into consideration that not all front-facing cameras are in the center of the device. For example, my Android phone has a right-side camera which means the ring light has to be attached to the corner of my phone so as to not cover up the camera! It’s only a mild inconvenience, but still annoying as it makes things a tad awkward! I’ve been using it for 90% of my selfies anyway! The selfie light is also super convenient for on-the-go face-timing in a darker room, or if you want to film a video on your laptop for uploading to YouTube or Facebook without spending a ton on lighting equipment!

On to item number two! The NYX Born to Glow Illuminating Primer has quickly become my favorite primer. I’m on my 3rd tube now! I’ve never re-purchased a primer this many times before. You can see me wearing it in the photos in this post. It creates a natural, from-within glow that only truly comes from healthy skin, and it builds the perfect foundation for all my makeup. It doesn’t sink into my pores, crease or flake, even after wearing it all day and sleeping on it! (yes, sometimes I sleep in my makeup — bad, I know!). I don’t have any cons to list for this product — It’s $14 and currently available at Target and Ulta stores as well as NYX online.

I’m a hair-care junkie. If it promises thicker, longer, fuller, shiner anything, I’ll try it! I’m on my 2nd bottle of Sugar Bear Hair gummies and I can honestly say they’ve made a huge difference. I had head hair growth in areas that have been “sparse” for 10  years (noticeably around my temples and hairline). I can’t say that your results will be the same, but I’m certainly a believer! As with any supplement, ask your doctor first if they think it’s safe for you to take. As far as hair care supplements go I think they’re on the moderately less expensive side. The most I’ve seen them listed for is a 30-day supply for $33 on Amazon.

What sort of Southerner would I be if I didn’t include a Kendra Scott item on my favorites?! It’s not hard to continuously have a new KS fave though! I pretty much had a heart attack when I saw the new Fall collection and the subsequent Nail Polish line that released last week. Of course Kendra makes lacquers to match her best selling stones — Smart woman! I snagged up a Rose Gold polish (shown above), along with a new rose gold drusy bracelet to add to my addiction collection 🙂 I’m planning on taking the polish over to Jen at Parlour 3 to have her create something gorgeous on my nails ASAP! I’ll definitely ‘gram the results for y’all! Who else is obsessed and happy with the current rose-gold trend?

Last, but not least, I have to rave over this darling disco ball tumbler with a light pink straw from Hunter Paige Salon! You’ve probably seen it a few times on my Facebook & Instagram, sparkling alluringly from the corner of a few photos! I just can’t even handle how happy it makes me every time I see it — I plan on getting a total of 6 to keep on my bar at all times! (They’re so darling as bridesmaid’s gifts! Check out blogger Hunter Schleicher’s post for cute photos of her “proposing” to her bridal party!) If you’re thinking of getting some of these cups bear in mind they are delicate and should be hand-washed so none of that gorgeous silver metallic finish scratches off.

Why You Should Be Excited About Pantone’s 2016 Colors of the Year: Rose Quartz & Serenity

Why should you and I care about Pantone’s “Color of the Year” choice? To semi-quote fictional fashion icon Miranda Priestly (who was none-the-less correct on this matter) what you wear is chosen for you by people who do care what the color of the year is. This means your favorite designers, all the way down to the bargain outlet sales racks, will have an abundance of whatever that color is on every jacket, bag and blouse you can imagine. Personally, I’m rejoicing this year. With 2015 being the year of go-go-go and more-more-more it’s refreshing to see an industry influence preach a new message: Relax. Not only has Pantone chosen two colors (for the first time ever) but these colors together say even more.

“With our hectic lives and the frenzy around us, there is an increasing demand for tranquility,” says Leatrice Eiseman, Pantone Color Institute’s executive director. “Wearing both of these hues at once is like returning to the weightlessness of your youth,” says Eiseman. “The combination of a cool and a warm color brings a sense of balance.” I couldn’t agree more Leatrice.

Styling a Statement Blazer with Shabby Apple

A few months ago Shabby Apple asked if they could send me a piece from their Summer collection to review. Of course I was thrilled and chose the Jackson Jacket. The Jackson Jacket is a little more bold, pattern-wise, than I usually go for, but I wanted the little challenge of styling it in a completely different way than was portrayed on the model. This jacket instantly evokes visions of 1960s housewives in bouffant hair and an apron (which I love!), but versatility is the life of any well-trimmed wardrobe, and I wanted to see where this jacket would fit in my own style.

Below is the Jackson jacket on the Shabby Apple model:

You get what I mean about the retro housewife vibe, right? Very Betty Draper!

My vision for styling the Jackson jacket was 1.) Modern & 2.) Casual. This is what I came up with:

Shabby Apple Jackson Jacket

When styling a statement piece with a distinct vibe make sure the color palette lends to the style you want to create. I wanted to move away from 1960s, towards 2015 so I chose crisp white and deep blue, which compliment the jacket’s pattern.

Since this jacket has a lot going on (like the polka dots and the shoulder bow) I couldn’t introduce any new patterns into the mix. Let the polka dot madness shine!

When choosing accessories I stuck with one accent metal (rose gold) and implemented that from the simple and modern cross body, all the way down to the hardware on my wedge shoes.

I opted for two, very simple, classic pieces of jewelry by Loren Hope (c/o Rocksbox), who is also known for her clean, modern take on traditionalism. An arm cuff and a pair of studs in the same clear crystal stone added a little sparkle. I chose not to wear a necklace as the shoulder bow on the Jackson jacket is neck ornamentation enough. Anything more would be overwhelming to the outfit. Depending on the specifics of the statement jacket you are styling you may choose to wear a necklace, but opt out of a bracelet, because your jacket is sporting gorgeous ruffles around the wrist. See what I mean? It’s all about working with the jacket to show off it’s best assets.

There were definitely many elements about this jacket I loved, including the high quality fabric and stunning tailored cut. I also liked the comfortable arm length, which hit just above the elbow, making it acceptable for Spring or Summer wear despite the humid Nashville weather I’ve been experiencing!

I’m normally not a fan of mirror selfies in my outfit blog posts but I had no one around to help me with these so here you go! At least you get the idea of the whole look styled in person.

Color Trend Report: Rose Gold + Black

When I was a little girl my Nana and Opa used to take me on road trips. They had a huge motorhome and we drove all over the United States attending trade shows and events selling jewelry through their business, C.C. Gold. They sold jewelry made with semi precious stones, and every metal, but my favorite pieces were always those made with ‘fools gold.’ You may know ‘fools gold’ or ‘black hills gold’ by its current, trendy name: Rose Gold.

Color Palette Trend Rose Gold + Black

Since becoming mesmerized by rose gold at the age of 5 I’ve collected anything and everything I would rarely find in that color. Somehow, in the last year, rose gold has boomed in popularity and now it’s everywhere.

As I mentioned last week, I’m moving. The fun part about moving is decorating the new place. With the new unlimited availability of housewares popping up in rose gold I know my house could end up feeling like a magpie was in charge of my decorating. To offset the intense-ness of (what I’m sure will be) too many rose gold elements I plan on pairing my finds on a stark backdrop of black and white.

The images I collected for this article are some jumping-off, inspiration points to get my creative juices flowing. My favorite thing about rose gold is that a little goes a long way. If at some point (heaven forbid!) my love affair with this sunset glowing metal ends I won’t have decorated to the point of no return! Black and white really does go with any accent color or texture.

What do you think of the returning and rapidly growing rose gold (or whatever you want to call it!) trend? Do you like this color?
