I have been shopping second hand shops, thrift stores, estate sales, and consignment shops for about 12 years now to score designer pieces at a fraction of their original cost! It can be disheartening though to be on the hunt for that perfect item and know it could be hiding at a yard sale, 3 States away, and I’ll never know about it! My inability to hit up every treasure hunting spot in the world has led me to broaden my search to the internet! There is still an ‘art’ to second hand luxury shopping online though, and today, on the first National Consignment Day, I’m partnering with The Real Real online luxury consignment store to bring you my best tips for scoring your dream designer piece online!

In this day and age no woman carries just one title. The 2017 woman is a working girl 24/7. She has a 9-5, she’s a mom, she’s a student, she owns her own business, she supports others and is involved in her community. She travels to places she’s never been, moves her family across the country, the state, or the world. She has a wide range of experience, a diverse pool of friends and an ever-growing knowledge base because more opportunities than ever are available to her.
I’ve had this incredibly soft (and now very worn-in!) sweater for about 5 years and every Fall, when I pull it out of storage, it somehow feels even cozier than the year before! So many fond memories of playing in the snow in Germany, sipping hot cocoa by a bonfire at a friend’s farm and curling up with a good book during a Winter storm is attached to this sweater for me.
This October I started thinking about how I could give it a little update without compromising the comfy factor! (i.e. nothing that would make the sweater unwearable for entire Winter weekends spent cuddling on the couch!)
My first thought was to add some delicate eyelash lace to the neckline. I found the perfect lace in a pretty, dark gray on Etsy about 2 weeks ago HERE.
I cut two pieces to the size of the neckline…
…And pinned it every couple of inches to the inside edge of the sweater…
…then I sewed it down with a simple hand stitch. The whole process took maybe 30 minutes.

Do you like to embellish old pieces of clothing or do you prefer to buy something new to make fresh memories in when your favorites wear out?
Last week I checked off another Nashville bucket list item and visited Pinewood Social for some eats and bowling! Pinewood Social is the chillest, cutest place in Nashville for a casual date and some comfort food. The open floor plan, minimalistic decor and nod to 1950s era teenage-hangouts is obvious and enjoyable without being even a little trite. In-all, my husband and I had a great time and definitely plan to go back in lieu of movie-date nights — which can just get so boring after a while!
